Mongolian third wind park launched. The Sainshand Wind Park Project or the third wind park of the country in eastern Dornogobi province held its opening ceremony. The project company- Sainshand Wind Park LLC- implementing the project for the commissioning of the third wind generator in the country is sponsored by French energy leader ENGIE, German project developer Ferrostaal, Danish Climate Investment Fund (DCIF) and Mongolian entrepreneur, Radnaabazar Davaanyam, with long-term financing provided by the European Investment Bank (EIB) and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD). The project was established to support the State Policy on Energy of Mongolia that says the installed capacity of renewables is to reach 20 percent of the total energy mix by the year 2023. The construction of the 486-hectare project site started in August this year and completion are projected by end of 2018. Once completed, the project will provide power supply to over 100,000 households through its installed capacity of 55MW of electric power generation, which will be based on the use of 25 Vestas turbines deemed as most appropriate for the climatic conditions of the land and modern day requirements of wind-based power generation.  Moreover, the clean energy generation will save an estimated 200,000 tons of carbon emissions, 2 million cubic meters of clean water and 50mln tons of raw coal consumption. In overall, the project is expected to deliver substantial environmental and socio-economic benefits. As result of the implementation of the project, some USD120 mln in foreign direct investment will flow into the country, while significant contribution will be made towards attainment of green economy and sustainable development objectives.
