September 1st is proclaimed Day of Mother Language. Day of Mother Language is to be observed on the first day of the academic year every year. The Presidential decree on proclaiming the Mother Language Day reads: “while cherishing folk art, traditions, cultural heritages, statehood customs and great history, which are the assurances of national security, and in order to maintain legitimate recordkeeping of state official documents, improve the public’s knowledge about mother language, history and culture, and start the campaign to invoke every citizen’s ability to speak and write in proper Mongolian”. The Day of Mother Language is intended to implement the measures including pursuance of proper standards of written and spoken Mongolian language in recordkeeping of official documentations and appealing the press and media to collaborate through broadcasting TV programs and releasing news and articles that encourage people for proper use of our mother tongue in their everyday life.
