Training Center for Forestry is launched. Project on Training Center for Forestry has been implemented since 2016 executed by KT&G social welfare organisation of South Korea and the Ministry of Environment, Green Development and Tourism. Only eight percent of the Mongolian territory is covered by forests. Due to the rapidness of climate change, ecological imbalance, and especially, human activities, forest sources have been decreasing over the years. The statistics show that a total of 1.2 million hectares of forest areas have been destroyed because of pest insects, illegal logging and wildfires within the last 20 years. Although there are over 1,600 cooperatives operating for the well-being of forests, less than 10 percent of the staff are professionals. The indispensable project on training forestry specialists is initiated by Green Asia Network NGO, which is officially registered to the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) and a non-profit organisation. Green Asia Network has been collaborating with the Ministry for the past 15 years in counter-desertification works, rural development and improving people’s participation in decision-making processes.
