First harvest of strawberry expected in South Gobi. The first harvest of strawberry, grown in South Gobi with two sorts of strawberries of South Korea, is expected before the National Naadam Festival on July 11. These strawberries are considered as most adaptive and fastest growing on the Gobi soil. Under the Mongolia-South Korea joint project “Green wall”, professors and students of the Mongolian University of Life Sciences in collaboration with local community of Umnugobi province carried out strawberry plantation on a 1500 square meter field. So far the province has set a goal to locally plant more than 50 per cent of the vegetable and fruits’ needs of the local region based on trilateral cooperation of Umnugobi province, Gyongsang province of South Korea and the Mongolian University of Life Sciences. Moreover, watermelon, honeydew melon, tomatoes and onion were planted on an open field.
