Presidential candidates registered
The General Election Commission registered presidential nominees of the People’s Party and the Democratic Party.
Presidential candidates are registered. The General Election Commission registered presidential nominees of the People’s Party and the Democratic Party. The nominees are M.Enkhbold, Chairman of Mongolian People’s Party and Speaker of Parliament and Kh.Battulga, former Member of Parliament and nominee of the Democratic Party. However the General Election Commission refused registering the presidential nominee of the Mongolian People’s Revolutionary Party, Mr. N.Enkhbayar. The commission rejected the documents of former President N.Enkhbayar because of registration irregularities and his conviction for graft in 2012, the election commission said. Mr. Enkhbayar was jailed in 2012 over a conviction for profiting from illegal privatizations. He and his supporters insist the conviction was politically motivated and he was pardoned in 2013, weeks after Elbegdorj's second-term election victory. The terms of the pardon forbade him from holding political office until the end of his original sentence on October 8 this year. Mr. Enkhbayar was prime minister from 2000 to 2004 and then president from 2005 to 2009. In cases of objections to registering a nominee, the election law regulates that the party can either submit the pending documents or propose a different nominee. May 17 is the day General Election Commission publicly announces the names of presidential candidates and May 27 is the day the candidates are presented with their certificates.
