Politicians join peaceful demonstration against offshore accounts. The movement against offshore account holders is heating up as politicians have joined the protest movement. Past weekend, Member of Parliament S.Javkhlan, former Deputy Prime Minister Ts.Oyunbaatar, and former MP S.Ganbaatar showed up at the Central Square of the capital city Ulaanbaatar, where a group of people had gathered to protest offshore account holders. However, head of the United Movement against Offshore Account Holders B.Batsaikhan said that they didn’t gather to become a tool for some kind of political party. This is a civil fight, he said. B.Batsaikhan stated that the movement demands that the implicated politicians reveal their offshore accounts; step down from office; use the offshore money to contribute to paying off Mongolia’s foreign loans; and face legal actions. Past year, confidential offshore information from Mossack Fonseca, a law firm in Panama, was revealed to the public through a number of media reports. Among the 49 Mongolian individuals and business entities named in the Panama Papers, there were accounts related to two former prime ministers of Mongolia and other government officials.
