Mongolian athletes show up brilliant performance. Mongolia won 2 gold, 4 silver and 1 bronze medals from the world’s largest winter sports event for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, “Special Olympics World Winter Games Austria 2017” which was held in Austria. Mongolian first gold medalist in Special Olympics N.Uyanga, who triumphed over the 50M race came out second in the 100M race for the silver medal. Mongolian athlete M.Gantumur became the second Mongolian gold medal winner in the Special Olympics. He also placed third in the Cross Country 50M race and won 100M race in the same category. Another athlete B.Oyunbileg secured silver medals in the 200M and 100M Snowshoeing Races. Athlete S.Temuulen won a silver medal in 25M race. The Mongolian national team for the 2017 Winter Games consisted of 14 athletes and competed with more than 3000 athletes from 107 countries in categories of floor ball, cross-country skiing and snowshoeing. Special Olympics World Winter Games take place every two years and involves adults and children with intellectual disabilities who can range from gifted, world-class competitors to average athletes to those with limited physical ability.
