Mongolian saigas, one of the most threatened species on the planet inhabit the western part of Mongolia. According to the 2015 data Mongolia’s saiga population was 13,000 while the global population of saiga was estimated at 120,000. Today, saigas are only found in Mongolia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Russia. Saigas hold a sad record in the animal world – they are one of the fastest declining mammal species on our planet today. Since the early 1990s over 95% of the saiga population has disappeared. There is considerable international concern, and saigas have been listed as Critically Endangered by IUCN, the International Union for Conservation of Nature.
