On the 17th of January 1996, the national company “Datacom” had connected the capital city Ulaanbaatar to California via 128 kbps cables. Since then Mongolia had witnessed many changes in the internet coverage and its usage throughout the country. Today smartphones are considered to be the most popular device for getting online using 4G coverage. Of the reported 1.1 million internet subscribers in Mongolia, five out of six access the Internet via mobiles.
