According to the National Statistics Committee, the number of livestock in Mongolia has reached almost 62 million heads by the end of 2016.
Mongolian livestock statistics released. According to the National Statistics Committee, the number of livestock in Mongolia has reached almost 62 million heads by the end of 2016. This new updated number represents some 10 percent increase compared to previous years’ statistics. The preliminary inventory results show that there are around 3 million and 500 thousand horses, 4 million cows, 4 million camels, 27 million sheep and 25 million goats in Mongolia. By percentage, the sheep account for some 45 percent of all livestock, while the goats are 41 percent, horses around 6 percent and camels 0.7 percent. The provinces with the highest population number of livestock are Uvurkhangai, Khuvsgul, Arkhangai, Tuv and Bayankhongor. Mongolia has been counting livestock since 1918.
