Mongolian People’s Party won the Parliamentary Elections.

Mongolian People’s Party won the Parliamentary Elections. Mongolia held Parliamentary elections with a good turnout or 72 percent of the electorate. The head of the General election commission said that the MPP won 65 out of 76 seats in the national legislature, formally titled the State Grand Khural. The ruling Democratic Party won just nine seats while independents and smaller parties won two seats. In conformity with the law, the GEC will convene a meeting today to issue preliminary IDs for MP-elected candidates and submit the results to the President for an endorsement in 15 days. The current law stipulates that the Chairman of the winning party will be appointed as the PM and form the Cabinet for the Parliament endorsement. The MPP is the former communist party that ruled Mongolia for 70 years before the country's transition to democracy and a free market economy after the collapse of the former Soviet Union. Also, Capital city council election was held and some 70 % of the eligible voters voted. In particular, Mongolian People’s Party secured 34 seats in the 45-seated Khural, whereas the Democratic Party won the rest.
