Professor Emerita Esther Jacobson-Tepfer of the Department of the History of Art and Architecture of the University of Oregon has been awarded the Kublai Khan Gold Medal, the highest honor offered by the Mongolian Academy of Sciences, and a Presidential Citation in recognition of her work on the preservation of Mongolia's cultural heritage. In addition to her fieldwork on Altai rock art, Professor Ester Jacobson collaborated over a period of several years with the Mongolian government on the successful nomination of two large UNESCO World Heritage Sites: the petroglyph complexes of the Mongolian Altai and the Burkhan Khaldun Mountain and surrounding sacred landscape. Professor Ester Jacobson published many refereed articles and books about rock art in Mongolia.
