Democratic development in Mongolia to be supported with new program. United States Secretary of State John Kerry during his recent visit to Mongolia announced a new $2.5 million program that will build Mongolia’s next generation of democratic leaders. At his meeting with young Mongolian leaders in Ulaanbaatar, Secretary Kerry said that democracy gives people the best opportunity to have their voices heard and that the U.S. Government is committed to support Mongolia’s democratic efforts. The Mongolian Emerging Leaders Program will be administered by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). This new program will help build Mongolia’s next generation of democratic leaders by facilitating the participation of young Mongolian leaders in international exchanges with their counterparts in the United States and selected countries across Asia. The program will also make civic education resources available to Mongolian high school teachers such as the Foundations of Democracy textbook that is widely used in classrooms in the United States and aims to teach students about the responsibilities of citizens in a democracy, including how to engage with government. USAID will implement the Mongolian Emerging Leaders Program in partnership with the U.S. non-profit World Learning, the Mongolian non-profit Center for Citizenship Education, and the U.S. non-profit International Republican Institute.
