An exhibition about Mongolian-Iranian relations is underway in Ulaanbaatar. An exhibition named “Mongolian-Iranian ancient and present relations and cooperation“ is devoted to the 45th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries and the 700 years history of the establishment of Ilkhanate or a Mongol khanate established in Persia in the 13th century, considered a part of the Mongol Empire. The Ilkhanate was based, originally, on Genghis Khan's campaigns in the Khwarezmid Empire in 1219-1224, and founded by Chinghis's grandson, Hulegu, in what territories which today comprise most of Iran, Iraq, Afghanistan, Turkmenistan, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Turkey, and western Pakistan. From the exhibits displayed experts single out the unique embroidered wall hangings which were found in the Noyon Mountain burials in Mongolia by the Mongolian-Russian expedition in the period between 2006 and 2009. The exhibition also displays the portraits of eight Mongol khans of the Ilkhanate period.
