The national mobile phone company “Mobicom” has been actively working to save the world’s rarest bear, locally known as Mazaalai. Since the past year the Corporation in cooperation with the Ministry of environment has been implementing a number of projects to study and monitor the Mazaalai bear’s mode of living and provide food and water to the rarest species. 23 cameras were installed to monitor the behavior of Gobi bears for research and for increasing the public awareness of conserving the rare species. Some female bears were fitted with GPS radio collars to monitor their movement for further actions. Some permanent watering points were built in regular Gobi bear habitats. The next move of the local mobile phone corporation is that feeding stations will be organized in spring and autumn in order to save Gobi bears from shortage of food. Fewer than three dozen Gobi bears survive in Mongolia’s wild, and none live in captivity anywhere. The Mongolian public has embraced the beleaguered bear as a national treasure, all the more precious for its rarity. Here comes a song about Mongolian Gobi.
