International festival-symposium on the traditional music of the Tsuur was held in Ulaanbaatar.
International festival-symposium on the traditional music of the Tsuur was held in Ulaanbaatar. Mongolia’s capital welcomed Tsuur performers and Tsuur researchers of a dozen countries including Russian Buryatia, Kalmyikia and Tuva, the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Inner Mongolian Autonomous Region of China. The main aim of the event was research, preservation and transfer of the traditional music of the Tsuur to the younger generation and support to carriers of the cultural heritage. Speakers at the symposium focused on the history of development of Tsuur musical instrument, culture and tradition of performance on the Tsuur and skills of performance on the Tsuur. A concert of international Tsuur performers was held on the completion of the symposium. The Tsuur is one of the most ancient wooden wind musical instruments of the nomads. The traditional music of the Tsuur is inscribed in 2009 on UNESCO List of Intangible Cultural Heritage in Need of Urgent Safeguarding.
