Capacity-building efforts continue in Mongolia for Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage /ICH/. The “Friendship Camp” in Ulaanbaatar hosted a five-day training workshop on developing safeguarding plans for intangible cultural heritage. The workshop aimed at enhancing capacities of Mongolian stakeholders in elaborating safeguarding measures for intangible cultural heritage under the 2003 Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage. Some 33 participants attended the workshop, including cultural officers from all 21 provinces of Mongolia, government officials and ICH practitioners representing selected ICH elements. Utilizing newly developed training modules on ICH safeguarding, two UNESCO-accredited facilitators gave theoretical sessions and presented a step-by-step guide for developing safeguarding plans. The capacity-building workshop is the outcome of joint efforts by the Mongolian National Commission for UNESCO, the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science of Mongolia, and the Center of Cultural Heritage of Mongolia. Mongolia has benefited since 2012 through a cycle of capacity-building activities including implementation, community-based inventorying and elaboration of nomination files for the effective implementation of the 2003 Convention.
