Mongolia’s tourism sector has potential yet requires more support
The tourism sector accounts for 9% of GDP. Tourist flow is estimated increasing from Asia-Pacific regional countries like India, the Republic of Korea, Vietnam and the Philippines. Particularly, the number of tourists coming to Mongolia from the Republic of Korea increased by more than 64% in the first three months of this year as compared to the previous year.

Particularly, the number of tourists coming to Mongolia from the Republic of Korea increased by more than 64% in the first three months of this year as compared to the previous year. The forthcoming 11th Asia-Europe summit meeting, ASEM 11, to be held in the Mongolian capital Ulaanbaatar city is believed to be good advertisement for Mongolia to bring in more tourists to the country later following the summit. ASEM 11 will be held in mid-July this year bring together Heads of State and Government of 53 countries. The government of Mongolia is planning “Friendly Ulaanbaatar” and some other projects to promote the national tourism sector. For the purpose, the flagship MIAT Mongolian Airlines is expanding its fleet by 40%, adding two Boeing 737-800s.
