Australia strives to promote Mongolia's democratic development. Embassy of Australia officially launched in Mongolia’s capital city Ulaanbaatar. Speaking at the ceremony Australian Ambassador to Mongolia John Langtry highlighted his country's striving to promote Mongolia’s democratic development, economic prosperity and facilitate people-to-people ties. Mr Ambassador said, 10.8 million AUD have been allocated in aid to Mongolia in the 2015-2016 fiscal year. Since 2002, more than 400 Mongolians have received postgraduate training and degrees via Australian government scholarship, and about 6,000 Mongolian nationals have received education in Australia. Some 60 Australian companies have offices in Mongolia. An estimated 200 Australian small and medium-sized enterprises have provided services to the Oyu Tolgoi copper and gold mine project in South Gobi desert with more set to benefit from the completion of a recent financial deal. Oyu Tolgoi’s ongoing expansion means that Mongolia’s future will remain inextricably linked with Australian industry, said Mr Ambassador. Mongolia and Australia established diplomatic relations in 1972. Mongolia opened its embassy in Canberra in 2008. The Australian Consulate had been operational in Ulaanbaatar since 2012, and now the Australian Embassy officially opened in Ulaanbaatar.
