Tourism to be promoted in northern Mongolia. “Integrated Livelihoods Improvement and Sustainable Tourism in Khuvsgul Lake National Park” Project will be launched. The Khuvsgul Lake project will focus on promoting sustainable tourism, community livelihoods, and environmental protection around the lake. The project will be implemented in three areas such as developing a Khuvsgul tourism zone, creating a united management structure to protect the environment and improving the standard of living of the people who live beside the lake. The Khuvsgul Lake National Park is considered one of the jewels in the crown of Mongolia’s protected area estate. More than 1 million hectares of stunning snow-capped mountains and forested hillsides surround Khuvsgul Lake, which supports 70% of Mongolia’s and 1% of the world’s freshwater. Its pristine waters are vital to Mongolia, while the park’s wilderness and biodiversity values are of global importance. The project will last for 4 years and financed with 3 million USD from Japanese grant aid.
