Mongolian-Australian relations enhance. Australian Embassy is launched in Mongolia. The Embassy launch marks the promotion of the diplomatic relations established in 1972 and the bilateral relations and cooperation which have been significantly developing since Mongolia’s democratic revolution in 1990. The two countries are well-positioned to advance their shared interests over the next decade, as Mongolia becomes more active in the region and develops stronger ties with its 'third neighbors’. Australia announced a five-year, $20 million program to assist the sustainable development of the resources sector in Mongolia in 2014, which is called the Australia-Mongolia Extractives Program with an aim to utilize Australian expertise in Mongolia to help ensure the benefits of the mining sector are spread across its entire population. Australia Awards in Mongolia Program enabled more than 350 Mongolians and their families to study in Australia and created a vibrant alumni network, many of whom have become influential Mongolian parliamentarians, officials and businesspeople. Mongolia opened an embassy in Canberra in 2008.
